Then, the .44 Magnum Blackhawk was introduced and it was larger than the .357 Blackhawk.

That of course never happened. With a variety of wheelguns at their disposal, what is it about these two that is so appealing for SASS shooters? The .44 flat-top was simply discontinued and the Super remained as its replacement. Colt introduced its second generation of SA Army in 1956 and continued churning out the revolver until 1974 when Colt, again, pulled the plug. The mid size frame is the same as New Vaqueros and is chambered in .357 Magnum and .44 Special, and maybe other calibers. Actually Ruger put the Vaq on a smaller frame (similar to a Colt SAA) in 2005. With a price point around $300 and a lot of standard features for that amount of green, the new Taurus G3C gives the buyer a lot of bang for the buck. The ruger blackhawk by design is more of a hunting/target handgun than the vaquero.

It appears though that Ruger has been having some problems with the .327 offered in the SP101. Sorry, the Blackhawk sold today is NOT the same size as the one sold years ago and is NOT designed for the heavy “Ruger Only” loads the second design guns were made to handle!!

You just reverse rotate the cyl a fraction & it is lined up to load or unload, simple! I have one of the last Ruger production .44 mag revolvers with a medium frame:  The 50th anniversary Blackhawk made in 2006. Mine is.

The Flattop variant is shares the New Vaquero's medium sized frame. Due to consumer pressure, Ruger brought back the Colt-sized medium flat-top frame in the form of the 50th anniversary .357 Blackhawk and New Vaquero in 2005. The New gun already lines up perfectly with backward pressure everytime! History, music (Southern Rock/Blues/Oldies), racing (cars/motorcycles), motorcycling, weapons (mostly guns and knives), baseball, toy trains, WWII, cowboy shooting (targets of course), reading, and my wife and family. I carry a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt almost daily. 1.763 Pre-2005 Vaquero No need for new names. Many shooters wanted a smaller frame, similar to the Colt SAA, so Ruger brought back the mid frame, with non adjustable sights, and called it the New Vaquero. The wheelgun laid dormant for two years until, in 1976, the SA Army remerged bearing a new cylinder bushing and thread pitch.

Frame is marked "New" but it is not the medium frame of the 357s. Now they've dropped the original ("old") Vaquero, and re-named the New Vaquero as the Vaquero. People are going themselves no matter. Stay in the know. I believe the .357 and .45 Colt Blackhawks are built on the mid sized frame and the .30 Carbine,  .41 Magnum and the .44 Magnum are built on the large frame. Ruger does not produce any 44 magnum revolvers with medium frames.

It should come as no surprise the Ruger name is synonymous with value, and its’ AR-556 looks to fit this mold as an entry-level AR-15 with a reasonable MSRP.

You can’t fix stupid. Remember, before slinging lead in competition, whichever model you choose needs to undergo a trip to a quality, certified gunsmith. So, it depends on what the word "is" is! Yes and no. Introduced in 1873, the Colt SA Army was immediately adopted by the U.S. Army.
